第一、先登录移民局网站、签证中心网站，查看一下申请新西兰访问学者的相关政策，做到知己知彼，在了解一下申请签证的一些资料，做好准备。
第二、申请邀请函，出国做访问学者，必须先申请邀请函，新西兰也不例外，如果拿到的邀请函上写明了，那么一定要申特殊工作签证，填写这个表格，在中选择是表格填写的指南，还要填写表，这是中国人要填的补充表。表格在移民局网站下载。
第三、资料准备，每一个国家的申请签证资料都不尽相同，但是主要资料还是差不多的。
1、户口本复印件和英文翻译件。
2、身份证复印件和英文翻译件。
3、邀请函，把对方邮件发来的.邀请函打印出来就行。
4、学历和学位证书公证件（中英文），也可以提供原件。
5、工作证明（中英文），找了学院院长签字，工作证明中说明：访学的相关费用由学校承担和访学期间学校保留职位，回国后继续在学校工作。
6、护照复印件（多准备几份，在签证中心提条材料的时候，他们会另外要一份，在上面盖章作为你取签证的收据）
7、二寸照片（申请护照的那种就可以）
8、体检表
9、特殊工作类别材料审核清单除了一些签证所需资料外，还有一些地方需要注意。
一、关于体检，一定要到新西兰移民局网站上指定的医院去体检，一年以内只要拍胸片的那种检查就可以，不需要全套体检，和医院说清楚。一般要和医院预约，自己打印表，带好护照和照片。可参见：全国新西兰访问学者体检指定医院表
二、表格填写，如果遇到签证表格上的内容不会填写，可以写邮件到移民局去问，回复很快，基本是有问必答。如果是关于如何提交签证材料的问题可以写邮件给签证中心。

签证注意事项
加拿大商务签证是中国大陆居民去加拿大访问常用的一种签证。商务签证并非是加拿大移民法中的一种特殊的签证类别。它只是一种访问签证(Visitor Visa)，在加拿大的法律中没有对商务签证作任何特殊的规定，只是加拿大驻北京使馆对中国大陆申请加拿大访问签证的申请人分类的'时候，对于商务的理由去加拿大访问的申请人，在行政上所作的管理上的分类。
